New hotels are opening up new travel opportunities, allowing us to discover new neighborhoods and ignite our curiosity.

IHG will open a record number of hotels in Australasia, Japan, and Australia in 2020. From the first IHG hotel in Tasmania to the first Hotel Indigo hotel in Australia and the first Kimpton in Japan, the year will provide travelers with unforgettable local experiences or inspiration to venture further at the right time.

IHG will open its first hotel in Tasmania, the Crowne Plaza Hobart, on 1 July 2020. The 235 rooms on Liverpool Street in the CBD have stunning harbor and Mount Wellington views.

AURA, the hotel’s highest rooftop restaurant and first club lounge in Hobart, will be located at this property. The hotel’s DNA is based on the inspired restaurant and bar philosophy led by renowned local executive chef John Churchill. Chef John has a solid farm-to-table philosophy, focusing on small-batch suppliers. He also promotes low-waste processes. Core Restaurant & Bar, Chef John’s signature restaurant, is based on a concept ‘based around the people of the community.’

The brand new Holiday Inn Express Queenstown is New Zealand’s first Holiday Inn Express. It is at the corner of Stanley Street and Sydney Street in Queenstown. This location is convenient to popular ski resorts such as Coronet Peak and Remarkables. It also provides access to Cardrona & Treble Cone.

The hotel has 277 rooms, including suites, a Holiday Inn Express first in Australia and New Zealand, and superior rooms with breathtaking Lake Wakatipu or The Remarkables Mountain range views. Holiday Inn Express & Suites Queenstown features a fitness center, sauna, two meeting rooms, self-service laundry, onsite parking, and a complimentary business center.

Crowne Plaza Sydney Darling Harbour is returning to Sydney’s CBD following a 10-year absence with a new, bold design geared toward the future. The $150 million hotel at the corner of Sussex Street and Bathurst Street is just a few minutes from the Queen Victoria Building, Town Hall, and the waterside pocket in Darling Harbour.

The 152 guestrooms are divided into four areas:

  • A work area
  • A relaxing sofa
  • A king-size bed for a restful night’s sleep
  • Spacious bathrooms with sustainable Antipodes products

The rooftop infinity pool is heated, allowing guests to swim among Sydney’s tallest buildings. The rooftop infinity pool is located on level 9. Relax on the sundeck while enjoying the stunning views, or enjoy a meal with friends at one of the three restaurants, 288 Sussex Restaurant, Cafe 58, or La Bella Restaurant and Bar.

Crowne Plaza is returning to Adelaide with the Crowne Plaza Adelaide. This new-build beauty, part of Adelaide’s tallest tower, the 138m Frome Central Tower One, with its views over the cityscape and Adelaide Hills, is part of the Frome Central Tower One. The East End is close to Lot Fourteen, Adelaide Botanic Garden, and Adelaide Oval.

As part of its global transformation, Crowne Plaza Adelaide will have flexible public and lobby spaces, zoned guest rooms that allow seamless transitions from work to play, and an enhanced Sleep ADVANTAGE program to ensure a good night’s sleep.

The hotel is all about creating memorable food experiences. Kokomo is Adelaide’s tallest restaurant, combining Australian ingredients and Japanese-inspired dishes. Luna10 offers pure escapism with its infinity pool, deck bar, and light snacks.

In 2020, Hotel Indigo Brisbane will open in Fortitude Valley. The hotel’s new construction is situated on Brunswick Street, the heart of the local culture and design. The hotel will have 146 rooms inspired by The Valley, with local amenities. The ground floor “eatery” transforms from a neighborhood cafe to a bar and restaurant in the evenings.

Adelaide’s first Hotel Indigo will open in 2020 at Market Street, a bustling culinary and produce hub in the city’s heart. The legendary festival of the town will inspire boutique hotel rooms. Natural light and vibrant wall art inspired by posters from local festivals brighten the modern color palette. The tessellated tiles of Adelaide are decorated with copper fixtures that evoke South Australia’s copper mining past.

Restaurants and bars are focusing on seasonal flavors using the best produce from Adelaide Market. Market & Meander is a contemporary Australian restaurant and pub with multicultural influences. It’s located on the ground floor. Merrymaker, the spectacular rooftop bar with raw food, is on the rooftop.

The expansion of ANA InterContinental Ishigaki Resort, which was highly anticipated, opened on 7 July 2020. The development, surrounded by colorful marine life and blue coral seas, marks an important milestone for this idyllic Japanese area. It now welcomes guests to the island’s only international luxury hotel and Japan’s first Club InterContinental location within the resort.

The unrivaled Club InterContinental Experience is set in its private enclave and includes a private garden, exclusive Club InterContinental Pool, and Club InterContinental lounge.

The expansion will include eight new restaurants and bars, four meeting and event spaces, and four indoor and outdoor swimming pools.

Kimpton Shinjuku, Japan’s first Kimpton Hotel, will open in Q4 of 2020. The hotel is in the vibrant Shinjuku area, the hub of Japanese art, culture, and trends. It’s also close to Shibuya Crossing.

Kimpton Shinjuku is a New York-inspired design by the international design and architect group Rockwell Group. It has 151 guestrooms, three restaurant concepts, a chapel that doubles as a health and fitness center and art gallery, and three event and meeting spaces. Kimpton Shinjuku is pet-friendly and has many beloved hallmarks, such as Kimpton Social Hour.
