‘Unbelievable’: Iconic Aussie drink returns to shelves

A popular Australian beverage brand is relaunching on shelves after 20 years.

Halls soft drinks will be back on the shelves soon at the former MOJO Kombucha facility in Willunga, South Australia.

Coca-Cola, the owner of MOJO Kombucha, announced that it would leave the kombucha industry in 2022.

Five former employees have already been hired back to help guide the company in its return.

For the first time since 2000, when the brand was discontinued, consumers can now purchase the drinks.

The Malinauskas Government supported the historic beverage firm in its return production by investing $5000 from the Thriving Regional Fund into the bottling plant.

Premier Peter Malinauskas stated that he has “fond memories” about the soft drinks and would “leap” at the opportunity to try the iconic flavors of the brand, such as lemon twist, Fruita, and lemonade.

He said: “I am very happy that my government is able to play a part in helping to re-establish the icon in an important part of our state by creating jobs and industries.”

South Australian Bottling Company Chief Executive Cameron Ballard stated that the “comeback of the brand” was supported in part by the surge in demand for soft drinks.

He said: “The public’s interest and support for the return of Halls soft drink has been incredible and humbling.”

We are thrilled to be in production, and we’re getting closer to the day when South Australians will finally get to enjoy Halls again.

He said that the investment from the Thriving Regionals Fund would be used to hire more local workers and accelerate the company’s plans for growth.

George Hall founded Halls in 1849 at a location in Marryatville, South Australia.

In 1872, they moved into a bigger building in Norwood (east Adelaide) and hired his sons.

Coca-Cola bought the brand in 1972 and enjoyed a near 30-year-long success before discontinuing it in 2000.

Halls has remained true to nostalgia in the relaunch of the new range, selling it in classic glass bottles both in 330ml varieties and in 1-liter variations.
